It was time for the second view over Rome for the day. After the morning’s expansive views from the top of Il Vittoriano it was chosen by many of you to go way back in time to one of the most ancient parts of the City. Take in the views from the top of Palatine Hill.
Palatine Hill is the most central of the Seven Hills of Rome and ancient folklore states that this is where Romulus founded the city. Excavations in the past have shown that people lived on this hill at least from before 1000 BC and even today you can see the remains of the palaces of Emperors Augustus, Tiberius and Domitian. One of the perfect places to take in a more open spaced fresh air walk in Rome with history all about you, parkland and history laid out in front of you in the horizon.
The view is absolutely spellbinding from many vantage points. The Forum on one side, Circus Maximus the other, the middle contains Rome with the glorious building that is the Colosseum leading the way directly before you.
There is a where you see ancient Rome in its finest. And it overlooks the Colosseum at its closest from the hill. The photos above do not give justice to the expanse of history that lays bare. One of those spots that will always live in memory with deep roots.
