Cumberwell Country Cottages are a perfect base to explore Wiltshire, whether that be for taking in the countryside or walking around the lovely and historic villages and towns.
With the famous city of Bath only five miles one way and Bradford-on-Avon only one mile the other, you can definitely still feel away from it all in the comfort of these old barns that have been converted to luxurious self catering accommodation.
The History
Cumberwell Country Cottages are part of Cumberwell Farm. The farm has been in the hands of the James family since 1939. Originally a dairy farm until 1992 and then a crop farm but out of it grew Cumberwell Park Golf Club as well as now the self catering cottages.
The self catering cottages have been gorgeously converted from an old tythe barn. This barn used to be a stables, a grain store and a place for cider production from the orchard out the front.
In fact the current names for each cottage have been taken from the old fields that were taken over by the golf course as a connection from the old to the present.
The Accommodation
In all there are 7 self catering cottages here. Ranging from 1 bedroom cottages for 2 people, all the way up to cottages with 5 ensuite bedrooms to accommodate up to 10 people.
I can say that each and every one is extremely spacious. Everything has that natural luxurious feel and a lovely charm. I looked in a few of the cottages and each one had its own style all to itself.
You can expect a lot of things in your room from free WIFI to big TVs, all linen and towels required and a fully loaded roomy kitchen.
There is underfloor heating and a private patio to enjoy right outside the cottage. Bliss.
I walked into the patio and was immediately greeted by an abundance of colour and butterflies.
There is plenty of parking on offer so no trekking far with bags and suitcases at all.
The Golf Course and Walks
Another thing to enjoy of course is the 36 hole championship golf course or the 9 hole par 3 course.
Golfers rejoice, but also for me it was also a chance to walk for miles and miles around the grounds and take in the views and the nature.
In fact, within a few minutes of heading out of the door and onto the surrounding fields and golf course I had seen not only plenty of butterflies but also an owl and a heron. That is only a snapshot, you can imagine what you see with some time here.
It was not only me, but other guests staying at the same all said how they found it a secret paradise.
I think I walked for miles and miles and still did not cover half the grounds. It was so peaceful and full of colour.
Beside the bunkers and the greens lay some gorgeous lakes and ponds full of wildlife.
Conclusion
If you are looking for self catering accommodation in the Bath and Avon area that is away from the busy places then this is exactly the kind of thing you are looking for.
Still close enough to all you would want to see and visit in the area, yet a base that makes you feel far away from it all.
What a wonderful and charming place to stay. Cumberwell Country Cottages is peaceful, relaxing with miles of open air to walk.
Time to discover Wiltshire.
