During a visit to Cornwall we happened upon a unique place to eat, The Vine by Knightor near Portscatho. If you are ever in the area, looking for something different and are hungry, I mean really hungry, then this place is certainly worth checking out.
Located in a gorgeous spot on the Roseland Peninsula it provides a lovely dining or drinking experience for all. The burgers are absolutely gorgeous, and they range from normal size to large, very large indeed! Let’s take a closer look.
Location
The Vine by Knightor is off the beaten track and very nicely so. The views are amazing from the moment you arrive in the car park. Looking down over the landscape and over to Portscatho itself.
You will find it just off the A3078 which is the road that runs down the Peninsula to St Mawes. The nearest village is Trewithian.
The address is Knightor Vineyard, Portscatho, Trewithian TR2 5EJ.
The Setting
We were there in the Cornish sunshine and first impressions were great. From the car park you will the big barn and outdoor seating set within the lovely vineyards of Knightor.
With it being great weather we chose to sit outside but there is always the option to sit inside the barn where you get a modern yet rustic feel.
The Food
Ok, here we go. If you love street food then you will love this place. It is certainly not an ordinary burger joint and it is all absolutely delicious. In fact it is so good that we have made a point to go back every time we are in the area so we can try lots of items on the menu.
Looking at the menu the burgers may have fantastical names but I can testify first hand that they are fantastical burgers.
I was hungry, and as I was perusing the menu one of the staff pointed my attention towards the Specials Board. Oh my word.
This looks beyond the burgers and has some real tasty light bites or other unique street food affairs like wings and chicken bites.
But there it was, my dinner to be, right at the top of the Specials Board. The Mexican Cowboy Chilli Burger. Upon ordering the staff member made sure I was very hungry. Because when served you certanly realise why.
Ok how do I describe this burger? The best way is to say that imagine every type of mexican food, all on one burger.
It was absolutely delicious, and no matter what you may think, it was not even the slightest bit ‘heavy’ or ‘fatty’. I sign that a lot of good ingredients and cooking went into it.
Zoe went for the Vegetarian Burger. Called The Notorious. Vegan pattys and cheese with chilli roast peppers and pickled red onion. Even this wasn’t going to leave her hungry.
For sides we went for a shared portion of chips, we daren’t be too gluttonous but again they were nice and tasty and not heavy. For sauce again it goes unique with some local Bloody Mary Ketchup by the Cornish Larder Co.
Wine
Of course, people don’t just come here for food. The Vine is part of the Knightor Winery, that produces a whole range of wines and vermouths from here in Cornwall.
You don’t have to come here just for dining, you can come here for a wine tasting or to have a sip in the sun after a day’s adventure.
Or maybe you want to partake in a bit of both? Some mouth watering food paired with some lovely local wine.
The Staff
I must give a special mention to the staff. From the moment we arrived we felt extremely welcome. Lots of good friendly banter as you peruse the menu and try to make your choice and the service was extremely timely. Thank you, it all adds to the memory.
Conclusion
The Vine by Knightor became a revelation for us and a massive surprise as somewhere we stopped off at on a whim. We had heard a little about it through local word of mouth then when we got back to the campsite at Veryan the staff there were raving about it.
We thoroughly enjoyed the food and definitely recommend it if you are ever in the Portscatho area of Cornwall.
