It was time to jump in the motorhome and head for a weekend of adventure in the Lake District. And it was about time I headed back to one of England’s most beautiful valleys, Ullswater.
Waterfoot Park is wonderfully situated, overlooking the beautiful lake of Ullswater itself but also for the whole of the surrounding area.
Waterfoot Park is walking distance from Pooley Bridge (about 10 minutes), yet feeling far away from it all and within nature.
This also means that the location is not too far from the M6 either so absolutely perfect for those with tourers and motorhomes wanting to discover more of and stay in Cumbria, surrounded by mountains and lakeland scenes.
This caravan park has been awarded 5 stars and if you do go to stay there you will easily see why. It is immaculate throughout and the welcome is amazingly warm. Set in the old grounds of an old Georgian mansion, that is now a bar etc, more on this shortly.
The Park is not just for tourers as you can see here. You don’t need a caravan or motorhome to enjoy a stay here. There are beautifully constructed and secluded glamping pods and hive cabins. Plus, near the mansion there are some very quaint self catering cottages, each of them fitted and supplied with all you would need in these days, yet with the cottages keeping their original charm.
As I stated the stay starts wonderfully upon arriving at reception and shop which is open daily throughout the season. A big welcoming smile greats you as you walk in.
Within the reception building there is a well stocked shop. If you don’t want to drive out to the nearest town, village or big shop then you can find basically all you could want here. Including lots of local produce and drinks if you want to try.
The ablutions are immaculate and there is never a block far away from where you would be putting your touring van. I know the ablution blocks are a deal maker for many of you out there. Remember this is a well starred place to stay.
For the weekend adventure I decided it was time for me to head down the lake to Glenridding and a return to the great walk up Helvellyn and Striding Edge. It had been a while since I had done it, plus the caravan park was only a few miles down the road. Had to be done 🙂
Now then, after a long day up on the mountains, in the sunshine, it was a pleasure to head back to Waterfoot Park, get freshened up and take the little walk up to their Mansion Bar.
Delicious, a local Gin and Tonic, with ice, overlooking Ullswater. Absolutely fabulous!
Keeping an eye out for the red squirrels that live in the area.
Being situated where it is I have found there are so many walks and places I need to discover around here without even getting in a vehicle.
When I return I shall be doing the Ullswater Way that is a 20 mile walk around the lake. watch this space.
There is also of course a lot more to do from here than walking, whatever your taste is. Cycling, water activities, even balloon rides over the lake, or take a trip on the steamer to discover the vast and beautiful area.
Did I enjoy my stay here? Yes I loved it. Will I return? Yes damn right. I have already said I am coming back for that walk, and more. Thank you Waterfoot Park.
A gorgeous caravan park, set in one of the most gorgeous parts of England. What more do you want?
