As soon as we walked through the door we were greeted by the wonderful and genuine warmth and smile from the lady at the front of house. In fact, each member of staff we came across during our stay greeted us with warm hospitality and a genuine desire to make our stay as comfortable as possible.

The rooms and suites are unique and gloriously furnished. The beds are huge and so comfortable. Even the dogs get their own little bed and food area. Yes Fence Gate Lodge is very pet friendly.

It was an absolute pleasure to indulge in delicious cuisine at the renowned onsite restaurant at Fence Gate Inn. It really is a culinary delight, offering a diverse selection of dishes that showcase a whole range of gastronomic offerings.
The talented team of chefs at the restaurant work their magic to create dishes that are both visually stunning and bursting with flavour. Drawing inspiration from great British dishes and infusing them with tastes from around the world it ensures a truly good dining experience for all tastes.

For starters I had the King Scallops & Chorizo Filo Basket that had the most delicious pea and lovage puree whilst Zoe started with the Hot Smoked Salmon Linguine.
Then the mains choices were so hard to make. There were so many gorgeous sounding options. From steak to fish, from burgers to their famous sausage dishes. I was looking forward to the sausages I had heard about at breakfast so we went for Roasted Venison Loin that comes from the Fasque Castle Estate plus the Duo of Gressingham Duck.
Oooooooh now what to have a dessert? It was a treat to be here and would be rude not to treat ourselves to something sweet. 2 completely contrasting choices here.
A Chocolate Orange Cheesecake and then a big Salted Caramel & Fudge Monty filled with lots of delights like caramel ice cream, whipped cream, pieces of fudge, pieces of meringue plus shortbread and hot toffee sauce, wow!
Complementing the exquisite food is an extensive wine list, featuring a carefully curated selection of both local and international wines. The knowledgeable staff are always on hand to recommend the perfect pairing for your meal, ensuring a truly memorable dining experience.
I was looking forward to breakfast as French Gate’s reputation for sausages and sausage dishes precedes them. The full English breakfast was absolutley gorgeous and set us up for a full day’s hiking very nicely indeed!
