The famous Striding Edge, the classic route up to the top of England’s 3rd highest mountain, Helvellyn.
Have you always wanted to take the route on but need a helping hand? Don’t want to be rushed? Then come with us on this guided walk where we take our time going across Striding edge at a beginners pace so that everyone can enjoy.
Maybe you are conquering a fear of heights? Maybe you have set yourself a personal challenge? Maybe you want to get ‘that’ photo of yourself on the mountain.
We shall keep the numbers smaller for this walk, not just for more one on one safety but also so that nobody feels rushed. Everyone should enjoy it.
We shall be doing the walk as a circular so not only will you experience the edge and the summit you will get lots of variety on the whole walk.

What to Expect on the Day
The Route:
Starting from the village of Glenridding, by the shores of Ullswater, we shall ascend the mighty Helvellyn via the quieter valley of Grisedale.
We will then make our way across to Striding Edge where we will have another briefing before making our way across this spectacular ridge.
After the edge we have a scramble up the rocky path to the summit of the 3rd highest mountain in England.
The fun doesn’t stop there. We start the descent via Swirral Edge, taking our time again. Before the wide and easy path back down a different valley to Glenridding.
What’s Included:
A full day of guiding by an experienced mountain guide. From beginning to end your safety, happiness and sense of fulfilment is paramount to us.
What to Bring:
Prior to the day we will email with all the details and weather forecasts. Here is a list of what to bring as a minimum.
- Walking boots – With good grip and ankle support.
- Layers – Base layer, mid layer (fleece) and waterproof jacket. Walking trousers.
- Spare Layers – Please bring extra spare layers for warmth and comfort. For instance when stationary.
- Hat and gloves – It may be warmer when we start, but can get cold up high.
- Rucksack – For spare layers, food and water.
- Water – A minimum of 2 litres.
- Food – Bring a good hiking lunch and snacks that you prefer.
