On a recent trip to London I was passing through Soho and had that sudden urge for chocolate. Now then there is everyday chocolate shopping…. and then there is Choccywoccydoodah chocolate! When in London it would have been rude not to 🙂
The beginnings of this chocolate treasure trove came about in Brighton, where the first shop is. Famously the two Christines, Taylor and Garratt acquired a shop there. Not knowing what to do with it they drank (perhaps lots) of gin. Chocolate cakes was the idea coming from that bottle of gin and more tellingly so was the name, Choccywoccydoodah!
Since that beginning they have opened the shop in London too, where I visited, just off Carnaby Street in Soho. Even in passing I could see all the colourful delights through the window… teasing me in. Then, wow, look at it all! There are cakes, and spectacular cakes but what greeted my eyes was beyond that. I had seen episodes of their reality TV show but that does not give the same effect of seeing it all in person.
It is display upon display of chocolate, cake and colour. I daren’t touch half of it for fear of ruining it. But again, this is no ordinary chocolate, even the little objects where weighty and solid. Proper chocolate, not the cheap airy stuff we see everyday. I could see immediately why so many people take the time out to come pay that bit extra for real, otherworldly chocolate items. And also, why it was many people’s dream to have a cake made by them.
Upstairs there is a cafe where you can eat in and fill yourself with chocolate delights. I could also see a steady stream of window shoppers calling in to savour it. The staff were all so happy to help and assist. It is not just about sales I can see. It is about art, design and showing what can be done with passion and a great team.
I could not simply just take photos and window shop. The urge to taste was too irresistable for me. I broke my diet, but not in vain. This chocolatiers was one of those occasions where it is worth getting the tastebuds working, believe me 🙂
I had heard but now believe. There is something quite magical about stepping into Choccywoccydoodah. People love chocolate, people love creativity and art, people love colour and happiness. You will find it in abundance here for sure. Go on, treat yourself.
