Hawaii is known for its lush vegetation and this is very apparent on the Waimea Falls hike I want to share with you today. Waimea Valley is located on the North Shore of Hawaii’s most populace island Oahu. We stayed in the Ko’Olina area which was an easy 30-45 minute drive to Waimea Valley. The hike is only a fraction of a mile on an improved asphalt path. But it’s worth the time to enjoy the beautiful flowers & trees along the way. This is a hibiscus and the path is strewn with hundreds of varieties of native flowers along the way. Waimea Valley Oahu, Hawaii Waimea Falls Trail You could easy finish this hike in under an hour but I ask you to take your time and enjoy the beauty of the flowers along the way to the waterfall. This banana tree is a perfect example of just some of the things you can see as you wander these gardens. Waimea Valley Oahu, Hawaii Waimea Falls Trail Waimea is in a valley and occasionally during the hike you are able to see the mountains that surround and protect it. Waimea Valley Oahu, Hawaii Waimea Falls Trail The Kamananui stream runs alongside your entire hike.  On this day it was so humid that the stream was actually steaming wherever the sun hit it. Waimea Valley Oahu, Hawaii Waimea Falls Trail As we moved down the path we found places that were shaded where we could enjoy the quiet stream to its fullest. Waimea Valley Oahu, Hawaii Waimea Falls Trail Finally you begin the ascent to the waterfall. (insert picture 7) After moving over the ridge and across a bridge we get your first glance of this wonder of nature. Waimea Valley Oahu, Hawaii Waimea Falls Trail Waimea falls is one of the few places that you can actually swim in. The pool that the waterfall drops into is approximately 30 feet deep and many people enjoy swimming under the falls to feel its full force. Waimea Valley Oahu, Hawaii Waimea Falls Trail The Banyan trees are beautiful and interesting all in one. They vary in size from a ‘normal’ tree to as much as 4 feet in diameter. In addition on Waimea’s 1,875 acres you can discover over 20 different species of bird.
