After day working in the garden, with the sun out and temperature high, we fancied something a bit more refreshing than normal to drink.
Normally in these situations it a Prosecco that is reached for but today it was time to try something with a zest of lemon added to the bubbly festivities and a congratulations to a day’s hard work.
We remembered we had bought a bottle of Zonin Limonetto Spritz. An Italian Sparkling wine combined with lemon juice. I thought it may be just the right thing for the right occasion.
How very lovely it was indeed, especialy when poured over ice as recommended. Let’s take a deeper look.
More About Zonin
This Limoneto Spritz hails from Zonin, a producer of wines and proseccos based in Gambellara of the Veneto Region in North East Italy. They have been producing for over 200 years and 7 generations.
What started here in the Venetian village of Gambellara in 1821 by 2 brothers Zonin has now become a brand recognised around the world.
The Creation
Of course there has been an increase in limoncello spritz drinking over the years and the winery has created this product using natural ingredients to create a tasteful ready made drink for the hot summer days.
The grapes are harvested then fermented to wine before carbonisation using the Charmat Method. After this the lemon juice and natural flavours are added. The alcohol volume is 11%.
Let’ us get to tasting it’s get the bottle open and get tasting it.
Not too Fizzy
The first thing I noticed on pouring was the medium amount of bubbliness. I don’t know why I expected more, maybe my own perceptions of what makes a summer refreshing drink.
I must say though that the average fizz works and it is not too fizzy but also does not lack them in the main. More on this with the taste.
Aroma and Taste
As you pour you get that lemon and prosecco aroma in the air straight away. It certainly whets the appetite for having a drink.
As for the taste, It is definitely lemony and has a zesty punch as it hits the tongue. You can certainly sense where they are trying to get that balance of citrusy yet slightly sweet.
On the tongue it starts extremely refreshing and leaves the citrus to linger with the aftertaste.
I would sum up the taste as, it is subjective. If you like a full on fizzy spritz effect this may not be for you. If you like a tasty medium fizz prosecco with lemon flavours and aromas then you could just well love it.
We certainly enjoyed it after working in the garden under the sun, a refreshing way to end the day. You could also use as an aperitif throughout any time of the year, it sure does fit that bill so to speak.
Conclusion
If you are looking for something to make a change from plain prosecco and a cool drink with a lemon punch then Zonin Limoneto Spritz is definitely one to look at.
On a hot evening, pour this over some ice, and watch the sun set. Cheers!
