Malta

Malta, is home to spectacular beaches, inspiring history and St John’s Co-Cathedral in its capital, Valletta, known as one of the world’s greatest cathedrals.

Marsaxlokk is a beautifully colourful fishing village in the south east of Malta. The luzzu (local fishing boats) are plentiful and make the sea front extremely picturesque. As you might expect, seafood here is delicious. Swordfish, tuna, octopus are all super fresh and delicious.

On Malta there are 11 Megalithic Temples and some of them date back to before the pyramids of Egypt and Stonehenge were built. In fact, 7 of the temples are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra wee both built in the fourth millennium BC.

The Dingli cliffs are located down the west side of the island of Malta. The height of the cliffs on this side of the island reach over 250 metres, and this served as an important natural defense throughout history against pirates and invaders.

On the main island, on top of a hill, you’ll find the old capital city of Malta, Mdina. Known as the silent city and featuring prominently on the island, it can be seen from miles around. There is evidence of settlement here dating back to around 4000 BC.

There are interesting discoveries to be made within these city walls. For example, an earthquake in 1693 ruined the Norman church which was replaced by one of the most famous buildings here, St Paul’s Cathedral. The city’s present-day population is under 300 and almost no cars are allowed  making it a genuinely  silent city. One of the most popular stops on a walk through is The Fontanella Tea Garden, not to be missed and renowned for its delicious cakes.

As you can see, Malta has a great deal to offer its visitors, from stunning and historic cliff walks to fantastic foods. The elaborate architecture in the old city of Mdina is a true wonder and should not be missed. Officially known as the Republic of Malta, off the Mediterranean Sea, the beaches are a perfect place for a quiet relaxing time while watching the sun set.
