Azerbaijan

    • Azerbaijan, the land of fire, is a wonderful country to visit. Very underestimated and often missed out on by Western travellers. From the wonderful and metropolitan capital of Baku to the mountains. From the Caspian Sea to natural fires. The country is brimming with culture at every turn.
    • The old and ancient City of Baku sits in the centre of the now large and cosmopolitan modern city surrounding it. A Unesco Heritage Site that must be explored and learnt about. The ancient building are still lived in and worked in.
    • In Baku you can travel though thousands of years from the very old to the very modern. A vibrant place to visit in itself.
    • As you travel through the country you can easily find the reasons for the nickname, the Land of Fire. Many of the places where natural fires rise fro the ground are written about in these pages. A phenomena that has to be seen. You can learn how ancient religions harnessed this fire with their beliefs and way of life.
    • Further afield you can discover areas that have been shaped by older civilisations. From the distinct and humorous people of Sheki. Or the snowy mountain slopes in the mountains, together with long lost villages with people living at altitude.
    • The silk road helped to put Azerbaijan on the map and visiting the carpet museum is also a great lesson in craft and history with the regions that make up the land.
    • Oh and I must not forget the food. From the pomegranate to the breads and the dolma. Plus the cakes of Sheki. Take a look and learn more.
