From the desk of Lucy Yearham…..
The weather was perfect as I walked around the headland from Crantock Bay and along to Newquay to photograph the Boardmasters. Lots of sun and a decent size surf meant that the competition was in full swing.
Fistral beach was busier than usual with a crowd congregated at the east side where the competitors were to be found. Photographers were knee deep in the surf with tripods and large lenses, guys were perched on the rocks ready and waiting for the first of the competitors to head in.
The rocks around Fistral looked magical as the sun glinted off the very blue sea. It was the perfect set up for some lovely surf shots. The sea continued to come in as the competition drew on, all us photographers moved further and further back dodging the hundreds of jelly fish and sharp rocks. The BBC camera was there too, adding to the excitement.
Overhead on the cliffs behind, the tent of judges called numbers and named tricks as these amazing athletes blew us all away whipping and gliding through the waves with such ease and grace.
Head around the headland again to Watergate bay for the music festival and an amazing summer experience not to be missed!
