We had arrived in Wiltshire to explore as much as possible within a couple of days. I looked forward to seeing ancient towns, rolling countryside, canals, rivers and a taste of some of the rural highlights. Cumberwell Country Cottages provided a magical central base combined with its own stunning surroundings. With the famous city of Bath only five miles one way and Bradford-on-Avon only one mile the other, yet you can feel wonderfully away from it all in the comfort of these old barns that have been converted to luxurious accommodation.
From the moment you turn off the roads and start heading down to the cottages you can sense the space and natural beauty.
The hounds were in their element too! Miles and miles to walk in any direction all around. The landscape has been beautifully carved into the 36 holes of the Cumberwell Park Golf Club and courses. Before heading out to explore that there was always time to sit in the gardens and a patio that is by each of the cottages.. And.. you know me – free wifi 😀
The garden was awash with butterflies of all colours. My camera was out the bag before I had unpacked. Everywhere I looked there was nature in full flow. Within the first hour of arriving and not going more than 5 minutes I had seen not only butterflies but a Heron, Kingfisher and an owl! you can imagine what is around if you wander and seek.
Back in the cottage the luxury needed to be enjoyed. Spacious, very comfortable and perfectly calm and quiet after a days exploring and walking.
Other guests commented that they found it a secret paradise and very relaxing. I can imagine myself how a week there walking the surrounding fields, golf course and gardens would fill my camera card up with views and wildlife many times over! Top tips – Wander out at dawn or sundown for the colours and shadows in great effect over the golf greens, ponds and hilly fairways. Watch the birds, relax, total peace and feel like you are away from any stress whatsoever.
