green dragon wiltshire

After a lovely stroll along the Kennet and Avon Canal and soaking up some history in Bradford-on-Avon it was time to kick off the shoes and relax. And what better way to experience the local atmosphere than to stay in a local family pub.

Our choice? The Green Dragon in Market Lavington. A charming pub and dog friendly too! 🙂

The rooms were lovely. Like a real step back in time but with all the comfort you need. Each room we saw was unique and had personality with signs of it’s history, I really love that in a pub/guest house.

Collections could be seen everywhere from old classic radios to interesting pictures. Even the hounds settled quicker than normal, that tells me comfort if anything too!

After settling down in our room it was time to wind down in the beautiful beer garden. Surrounded by apple trees, sunshine, flowers and chickens it was a great place to relax after all the walking.

Nearby the pub there are lots of opportunities for plenty of walks (with or without dogs), Salisbury Plain and the wide open countryside south of Devizes, which made it a perfect area for us.

In the evening the pub was charmingly lit. Time for us to treat our taste buds… A truly delicious dinner was prepared, you know, you just can’t beat a tasty home-cooked pub dinner at times and this was up quality too. Everything local, everything made personally special in the kitchen.

Such a wider variety of dishes too than most establishments, a credit to all involved, you could see and taste very easily why people from all around were booking the tables up in advance…..  and of course we enjoyed a nice pint or three afterwards in the bar 😉

Something that immediately caught my eye was that besides the Wadworth range of beers, they also sold Amstel 🙂 I was home…

The next morning after breakfast it was time to explore more of Wiltshire. We said goodbye to Steve and Nicky and off we went.
