As I wandered around Rome I could not fail to come upon statue after statue. It felt every corner, every street and every piazza had at least one  figure looking out in the stillness it was made. Rome is not just for looking around. Look upwards too and you will see many figurines made in history, either looking out over the City or down below as if keeping watch over the people.

From the 16th Century some of the well known ones became ‘Talking Statues’. That is they were used by anonymous people to post upon satirical or public protests about public figures and politics. The first being Pasquino. The statues would thus speak the mind of dissatisfied people. It continues to this day.

During my one day as part of the Perfect Day In Rome I was of course only passing by them as going from spot to spot. I manged to capture only a small amount of them in passing but never the less they captured my imagination and want of seeing more of them and properly. Art in abundance and much of it ancient in supreme condition.

In moments of pause I glanced around and watched them and their stone still gaze. Standing tall against the blue sky or proud on horseback in a hero’s position. So much to learn and so much to see. A remarkable city.
